Give Yourself the Green Light
What's stopping you from writing what you love? Have you ever told yourself something along these lines?
- "I can't work on my book until I'm earning more with my freelance writing."
- "I can't work on my novel until the laundry's folded and the house is picked up."
- "I can't work on my story until I know everything there is to know about [my craft/my story's setting/my main character]."
As you know, resistance, self-doubt and fear take many guises. But think things through for a moment. You don't really believe these lies, do you? That you have to have ample time, perfect confidence and/or a tidy house in order to write?
Because you've already got everything you need to get started. You've got the talent. The time. You've got the know-how to find out what you don't know, if you need to. (And goodness knows the laundry and dishes will still be there when you return.)
Take a break today and let yourself start writing what you love. Do it for just ten minutes--fifteen, if you dare. Then challenge yourself to do it again tomorrow.
Because scarcity thinking serves no one.
You really do have everything you need to start writing what you love. It's up to you, dear friend, to let yourself begin.
